The It Works! Home Party Training Guide is designed to promote the success of It Works! distributors through a Home Party event. The Home Party will help to build both a strong customer loyalty base as well as a strong distributor base for a successful It Works! home-based business.

Although there are many marketing methods an It Works! distributor may use to build his or her business, launching your business with a Home Party is one of the easiest ways to jumpstart your business.

The key to the entire system has been left out of the Home Party Guideline—until now—because the most important ingredient is you.  Just add your own passion and enthusiasm for It Works! and its products, and you are set!

Getting Started and Goals

The Home Party system explains several ways of conducting a Party and presenting the It Works! products and opportunity, including:

·         Wrap Party

·         Product Evaluation Party

·         Grand Opening Event

·         Open House

This guide details the keys to having a successful Home Party and will show you how to achieve your goals.  You will get some great tips on how to:

·         Prepare your Home

·         Plan a party

·         Book parties

·         Talk about the Company

·         Spot Good Business Prospects

·         Discuss the Products

·         Follow Up with Guests and Customers

Please take the time to read through this Guide and become familiar with it.  The information in this Guide simply provides a place to begin.  You are embarking on a wonderfully exciting journey—feel free to be creative, add your own special touch, and have fun with it!

The Goals

The Home Party is a comfortable, relaxed and cost-effective way to market It Works! products and present the It Works! opportunity.  This Guide will show you the way.  You will quickly become comfortable with hosting your own Parties, and begin to encourage your Party guests to host Parties for you, inviting their friends, neighbors and co-workers and expanding your circle of friends and customers.  Some of your guests may choose to become It Works! distributors, and your business organization will begin to grow.

Hosting Home Parties will achieve these goals:

  • Quickly market It Works! products and obtain long-term loyal customers
  • Locate those interested in a home-based business
  • Provide the opportunity to schedule future Parties, which will help you obtain additional customers and continue building a business organization
  • Provide valuable presentation experience should you choose to venture into business presentations

People are more receptive to the business opportunity of referral marketing in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.  Because of the cocooning theory—a person’s desire to work from home, to have more family time and freedom, and to avoid the gridlock and pressure of the corporate workplace—many people are looking to develop a home-based business.  The Home Party system is an excellent vehicle to briefly present the It Works! business opportunity and, more importantly, to demonstrate to your guests how simple it can be to generate an income in the warm, casual atmosphere of home.

The Keys to Success

You may be thinking that you are too inexperienced to have a Home Party when you first start your business.  This feeling is perfectly normal.  For your first Party, invite people you know fairly well, your family, good friends, and co-workers.  Hopefully, your sponsor will be with you every step of the way in both planning the event and presenting the products and business opportunity to your guests.  If your sponsor does not live in your area or is not able to help, this Guide provides step-by-step instructions to help you have a successful Party.

Once the Party is underway, you will wonder why you worried about it.  The Home Party presentation is an excellent way to help you sell product and make immediate profit, while having fun with friends and family.  You will find that hosting your Parties is so simple, enjoyable and rewarding; your guests will be duplicating your system in no time.

The keys to having a successful Home Party are:

  • Careful preparation and planning
  • A relaxed and enthusiastic presentation
  • Meticulous follow-up
  • Enjoying every moment!

Home Party preparations occur in three stages:

  1. Party Planning, including the day of the presentation
  2. The Presentation
  3. Post-Party Follow-Up

Before we start planning your Party, let us look at the different types of Parties that you might want to promote.  Remember, use your imagination and do not limit yourself to only these types of get-togethers.  Add your own style and flair to create the perfect Party for you and your guests.

The Party that Fits Your Style

With the Home Party system, there are many ways to present It Works! products to your circle of influence.  Your first Party might be a Home Party Grand Opening in celebration of your new business.  You might opt to have a casual Open House, or perhaps a Girls’ Night Out party might be more your style.  As you become familiar with the Party presentation, let your imagination run wild with the many possibilities.  Develop your own style, be creative and, most importantly, have fun with it.

The Grand Opening

Your first Party might be a Grand Opening celebration of your new business, which can function just as a Grand Opening does for any other business.  Invite family, friends and associates to come to your location to see what you are doing, to lend their support, and to celebrate your success!  Offer your guests a chance to experience The Applicator.  Let them know ahead of time that you have the product available for them to try that night for $25.  Also, have promotional materials available so your guests are able to really appreciate your new business commitment.  A Grand Opening that is festive and fun normally generates positive response toward both It Works! products and the business opportunity without your guests feeling pressured to purchase products or join the company—but do not be surprised if your Party generates a great deal of interest in both!

Product Evaluation Party

You may choose to initially invite friends and family to help you evaluate your new company and products at a Product Evaluation Party.  Make a list of friends, relatives, neighbors, and both past and present business associates.  The first people to call on your contact list are those you believe are most likely to help you.  Call and advise them you have just become involved in an exciting new company and have been given a marketing assignment to complete 8 consumer evaluation reports.  Ask them if they would mind being one of the people to assist you by answering a few questions and helping you evaluate a new product line.  Also, let them know that they can also try the product, The Applicator for $20.  Also, stress to them that you only have enough product for 8 guests so you need to know right away if they want to try it.  Explain briefly what the applicator does along with your story of what it did for you.  Remember stories sell.

Sample dialogue:

“Hi, Joan, this is Julie.  I need your help on a project.  The company I represent has given me an assignment to talk with several people to evaluate some of their products particularly The Applicator.  Because I value your opinion, I would like to know if you will come by Saturday to evaluate these products I am very excited about.  Also, if you would like to be one of 8 people to try The Applicator at an introductory cost of $20, please let me know.  The Applicator was the first product that I tried and within 45 minutes I lost 2.5 inches and those inches are still gone.”

If they want to know more about the products, tell them you do not want to tell them your opinion of the products until after their evaluation.  “If I tell you about it, it might influence you.  I want your true opinion of the product line.”  Never refuse to tell anyone the name of the company.  If asked, enthusiastically name It Works!

Home Party

A Home Party is simply inviting a group of people to your home at a designated time to present the It Works! products in a warm, casual atmosphere.  You will provide an overview of the company along with an introduction to the It Works! product line with your main focus on The New You Challenge Plus Kit along with a brief sentence or two about the It Works business opportunity.

Open House

An Open House is similar to a Home Party, except you set an open timeframe, such as 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., for guests to come and go as they please during that time.  Organization may be a bit more challenging with an Open House because there is no set time for a formal presentation.  It is slightly more casual than the Home Party and requires more flexibility on your part

Keep the Parties Going

Subsequent Parties should be held regularly to help continue building your business.  Parties serve as a fun complement to other forms of business building, such as one-on-one meetings, luncheons, business presentations, spa/salon/store presentations, larger events, and 3-way telephone calls.

STAGE 1:  PARTY PLANNING

The Format

Regardless of which type of Party you choose, the planning details remain basically the same.  When a friend or guest schedules a Party at their home, you will follow the same basic steps as you followed for your own Party.

Thank your Hostess

Immediately after a friend or Party guest schedules a Party at their home, send a card to thank them for booking the Party date.  There is no better way to let your Host know you truly appreciate the effort than by sending a thank-you note.

The Place

Select a home, preferably their own.  You may want to team with your sponsor or another distributor in your area to pool your resources and efforts.  If another person is serving as Host for your Party, you will most likely have the Party at the Host’s home.

The Day and Time

Choose a time and date.  You can hold your Party at any time—on a weeknight, Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.  Simply select a time and day that you believe will be convenient for the most people.

Make your List

Use the Guest List to make a list of your potential guests two weeks prior to your Party.  Invite a minimum of 20 people.  About half of those you invite will attend your Party if you follow these simple steps.  But even with the best planning, you should expect about 50% attendance.

Prepare your Host

When a friend agrees to host a party, leave a brochure with your Host so he or she can encourage invited guests, who are unable to attend, to place a product order before the Party.  Many times, these pre-Party orders will total more than orders received during the Party.

The Invitations

Have the hostess use the above script for the initial inviting phone call.  Follow up with an Applicator  Postcard or email the details immediately after the phone conversation, 10 days before the event, using the Guest List the hostess has created.  Be sure to include the date, time, location, directions and RSVP phone number. Personally write, or have your Party Host write, a special note on the invitation, such as:  “Can’t wait to see you Tuesday night!  If you want to bring a friend let me know so that I will have enough product for everyone!”

To ensure invitations to the Party are mailed within an appropriate timeframe, you might personally mail the invitations for your Host.  If your Host chooses to mail the invitations, provide the necessary postage or offer to pick up the completed invitations and deliver them to the Post Office.

Encourage your Host

Call the Host a few days before the gathering to confirm the time of the Party.  Help build your Host’s enthusiasm for the Party.  Reaffirm how much she will enjoy the gathering—it will be fun, casual, comfortable, and informative.  Your Host may be apprehensive about a small turnout for the Party.  Even if your Host says only a few people will be attending, tell the Host, “That’s great; we’ll have a wonderful time!”

Confirmation Calls

Call your guests, or have your Host call the guests, 24 to 48 hours before the event to confirm their attendance.  Without this follow up, your initial efforts may be wasted.  Coaching the Party Host on inviting and reminding guests by phone is extremely important, especially if time constraints have prevented invitations from being mailed out.  Have the Host encourage each guest to bring a friend to the Party.

Dress for Success

Dress in casual business attire for your Parties.  Your guests will tend to take you and your business more seriously if you dress the part.

PREPARE YOUR HOME

In preparing your home for the Party, there are several simple steps to ensure a successful Party.  Be sure to review the items listed below.

Use your Imagination

If your Party is scheduled close to a holiday, such as, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or Christmas, you might use the impending holiday to design a party theme.  Making holiday gift baskets of It Works! products in advance of the Party will make holiday shopping easy for your Party guests.  You can decorate your home inexpensively with balloons, banners, curling ribbon, metallic confetti, colorful linens or other items that will add a fun, festive atmosphere to the Party.  Keep this simple.  We want to encourage others to host a party so you don’t want them to think they have to go to a lot of trouble.

Product Display

You should set up a display of It Works! products and marketing materials.  Display the products in an attractive arrangement in an area that is easily accessible, but not a distraction during the presentation.  Your sponsor may be able to contribute to the materials needed for the display.

Refreshments

Keep refreshments simple and inexpensive.  Vegetable trays, finger sandwiches, chips and salsa or dip, and desserts (store bought cookies) all work well.  The food should be light and easy to serve.  Do not prepare refreshments that require excessive preparation time or expense.  Serve refreshments after the presentation is complete.

Supply water with lemon in beautiful glasses for those that are wearing product.  Serve wine if you feel it is appropriate.

Setting up the Room

Make sure you have adequate seating available for your guests.  Keep the home looking normal until guests arrive, adding additional seating as needed.  It is better to add seating as guests arrive than to have empty chairs that give the appearance of an empty room.

Creating an Atmosphere

Because silence can be awkward, have upbeat music playing as guests arrive, but make sure the volume is low enough to easily carry on conversation.  Make sure the presentation room, as well as the outside of the home, is well lighted.  Softly scented candles can help create an intimate, warm feel to the home, but do not depend on candles for lighting.

Children and Pets

Make arrangements for care of small children in a separate area of the home or at another location during the Home Party.   Please be sensitive to this in advance of the Party.

To eliminate distractions and challenges for those with allergies, keep pets away from the presentation area.

Minimize Interruptions

Once the presentation has begun, turn off cell phones and pagers and transfer phones to voicemail to avoid interruptions.

Arrive Early

Be sure your Host knows you will arrive 30 minutes early to set up and answer any questions he or she may have.  Always be on time!

PARTY TIME!

The day of the Party, have the following items readily available.  If another person is hosting your Party, be sure to take these materials with you.

  • Product for Demos (The Ultimate Applicator)
  • Tape Measure
  • Scissors
  • Measurement Cards to write down measurements
  • Empty Product Boxes or bottles
  • Unfolded dry Applicator Cloths  (Ultimate and Facial Applicator)
  • Digital or Polaroid Camera
  • Money Box or Money Envelope
  • Sign in sheet along with $25 Applicator Sign
  • Calculator
  • Appointment Book
  • Pens
  • Nametags
  • Guest List

Set Up

Set up your room about half an hour prior to guests arriving.  If your Party is being hosted at another home, it is critical that you arrive early!  Arrive 30 minutes early to set up your display area and visit with the Host.  Remember, a future distributor may be in the audience and you want them to see how easy and fun this presentation is.  Set up your product display and marketing material in an area that makes it easy for you to work from, with all your support material at your fingertips.

Review the Guest List

Review the Guest List with the Host one last time to make sure you are familiar with the guests who will be attending.   Ask your Host who he or she thinks might have an interest in a home-based business.
